Why I Started Yarnnest (and What It Means to Me)

If you've stumbled upon this little corner of the website, welcome, I’m so happy you're here. Since this is my very first blog post, I thought it made sense to start at the beginning… with why.

After my exams ended, I found myself a little lost. I was anxious, overthinking my results, and I didn’t really have much to do. That’s when I noticed something, my mum, quietly crocheting like she always had. She’s been crocheting for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always been curious about how her hands moved so confidently, how she made such beautiful things out of just yarn and patience.

So one day, I sat beside her and asked her to teach me.
And that’s how it began.

The process was full of mistakes, tangled yarn, uneven stitches, wonky shapes, but we kept going. Some projects failed completely. Some looked nothing like the plan. But there was something really comforting about creating with my hands, especially beside her. It became our thing.

Eventually, that shared passion turned into something more, Yarnnest. A small, sweet dream we decided to build together.

Even now, when I take on a big plushie or a complicated project, it can feel exhausting and stressful — but when it’s finally done and I look at what I’ve made, I feel a soft kind of pride. Even if it’s not perfect, it’s mine. And I’m learning.

Running this business has shown me that it’s definitely not all rainbows and butterflies. It’s nerve-wracking. It’s overwhelming. There are days I feel like I’m all alone in the chaos, even when I have the support of so many lovely people. But there’s magic in that too — in growing through the tough parts.

And honestly? Every single order still makes me nervous. I pack each one wondering, Will they like it? Will it feel worth their money? Will it bring them joy?

Because to me, these aren’t just products. They’re pieces of my time, my effort, my heart — and I hope they carry some of that love with them.
